It’s bittersweet being home. I learned a lot about the world and about myself on this trip. There is something really special about traveling when you’re 18. Independence at it’s peek of excitement.
I hope this blog has inspired people to travel and explore, whether it be abroad or in a more local sense. My exploration over the past three months has broadened my sense of self and inspired me to think in bigger scales.
My advice is to say yes to any and all invitations, meet as many people as you possibly can and write everything down.
“Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quiestest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey.” -Pat Conroy
Highlights from my last week abroad: London, Paris and Florence:
- Arriving at the Savoy and being greeted by a man in a top hat. This place is something else! We decided to be super fancy and order fish & chips room service.
- Mochas at Paul- You must go here if you are ever in the UK.
- Racing through the National Gallery before catching our train to Paris.
- Watching over 1,000 people rollerblade through the streets of Paris from our balcony which is a weekly event that I did not know about. Super cool!
- Eating chocolate soup.
- Eating macaroons by the Eiffel Tower.
- Eating world famous hot chocolate at Angelina’s.
- Eating… just kidding.
- THE MUSSE D’ORSAY (love love love!!!!) I am going to punch you in the face if you go to Paris and do not go to this museum. In the face…. seriously.
- Arriving at our hotel in Florence only to see the entire cast of Jersey Shore… which I secretly love now. I had never seen the show before and after we saw them, Celia and I did some Jersey Shore watching homework.
- Taking a partially drunken, Ke$ha themed bath.
- Flirting with the hotel staff who wrote secret messages to us in cappuccinos.
- Complimentary fruit platters delivered daily to our hotel room.
- Climbing to the top of the dome (which almost killed me but was worth it).
- Climbing to the top of Pitti Palace. If you hate being able to see all of Florence and sitting in lovely gardens, you should still go here just for the cats.
- Being not only in the same plane but the same row as Miss Val Diwa who I did not even know was in Europe.
Well, it happened. I am back blogging in the comfort of my own home. Photos to follow of my most recent adventure. First, sleep.
CELIA IS COMING
She will be here in 23 hours! I am all packed up. I have one foot out the door and the other cemented in the ground at 24 Margaret Road. On to the next adventure!
The last theatre class. A for the day, obviously.
This is one of my favorite blogs right now. Happy Sunday!
Princess Diaries Part II
I’ve been in my room all weekend trying to finish up all of my work and prepare myself for finals (because I leave on Thursday!!!!!!!!). Lyn, who probably thinks I’m a recluse by now, just knocked on my door with a cucumber and cheese sandwich and some crisps. She is so dear! And she just started using a new kind of detergent that smells like watermelon. I want to bathe in it! I think I have mentioned this before but she does a load of wash everyday so my room constantly smells like a watermelon patch; however, she has stopped putting my clean clothes in my room and now leaves them in stacks all over the house. I like because it’s like a scavenger hunt and it tests my olfaction. Seriously, I could find them blindfolded. I love living “at home.” Mary and Rick, I don’t think I’m ever going to move out, and if I do, I am shipping Lyn out to California to live with me.
